Applications open for a new BIPOC Committee for IQA Events

Jun 16, 2020 | News

As we said in our statement on June 2 in response to the global protests against racial injustice and police brutality, it is the IQA’s responsibility, “to stand for representation, inclusion, and to implement active forms of fighting racism in our organization and community.” We have recently received feedback from NGB members and their players about the choice of Richmond, Virginia as the location for the IQA World Cup 2021 (formerly 2020), specifically that it is not safe for BIPOC (Black, indigenous, people of color) attendees. To that end, the IQA is looking for consultants to support the IQA Events Department and the IQA Board of Trustees in the evaluation of this feedback. These are short term volunteer positions.

Creating a safe environment for athletes, volunteers and visitors who attend our events is a priority for our organisation. We take this situation and feedback seriously and want to have an open discussion and consultation process to review the current location of the IQA World Cup, and help the IQA Events Department to improve the location selection process to keep this safety in mind when selecting events venues on future occasions. The IQA is now looking for a diverse committee to assist with this consultation process.

This committee will be asked to gather feedback on the location of World Cup 2021 and provide a recommendation to the IQA Board of Trustees, as well as to advise the IQA Events Department on an improved location selection process that is more inclusive and mindful of the safety of our players, volunteers and spectators.

The selection of the committee will be done in collaboration with volunteers from the US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch Diversity and Equity teams.

Apply now through this form. Applications close on June 24, 2020.
